Authorities are still searching for a suspect involved in an armed robbery Monday night at a local convenience store in Jasper.

Jasper Police Lt. Paul Thompson said a lone gunman entered the Tiger Mart on Alabama 118 West around 8:45 Monday night and robbed the store.

“We don’t have a whole lot to go on, all we know at this point is that the robbery suspect was a black male,” Thompson said. “He entered the store wearing a hoodie pulled down over his face, and pointed a gun and demanded the money. He apparently fled the scene on foot.”

Thompson said convenience stores around Jasper need to take a stand and provide for their employees safety by putting up a sign in regards to wearing a hoodie in their store.

“It’s hard to see what a person looks like who has a hoodie pulled down over their face. Business owners should put a sign on their door stating ‘No Hoodies Allowed,’” Thompson said. “They (business owners) have the right to do that. They also have the right to ask a person to remove the hood on their hoodie upon entering the store and the right to refuse service to anyone who fails to comply with that request.”

Thompson said anyone with any information regarding Monday night’s armed robbery at the Tiger Mart is being asked to contact the Jasper Police Department at 205-221-6790.
