Ozema Kelley, 91, of Eldridge, died on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at her residence. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 13, 2012, at Eldridge Baptist Church, with burial at Kelley Cemetery. The Revs. Blake Courington, Kevin Pugh and Shawn Morgan will officiate, with eulogies by Dean Martha Ann Cox and the Rev. Randy Key. Visitation will be at Eldridge Baptist Church from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. today, Dec. 13, 2012.

Kelley was a member of Eldridge Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for 65 years, church historian for more than 50 years, and music director for many years. She also served on the faculty of WMU and Discipleship Training youth assemblies at Shocco Springs for Alabama Baptists for 25 years. She was a silver sister of Pi Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority and a member of both the Alabama and the Walker County Retired Teachers Associations. She held a bachelor's degree from Florence State Teachers' College (University of North Alabama) and a master's degree from the University of Alabama. She taught first grade at Eldridge Junior High School for 42 years and authored one book entitled “Innocence” about her classroom experiences.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grover Cleveland Kelley; two sisters, Mary Louise Harris and Lucy Nell Kelley; three brothers, Aubrey "Abe" Kelley, Clarence Cleveland Kelley, and Raymond Gilder Kelley; and a niece, Marilyn Harris Byars.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Helen T. Kelley of Eldridge; a nephew, Dr. Ralph Rogers Harris of Auburn; six nieces, Barbara (George) Kelley Sakellarides of Montrose, Trannie (Sam) Kelley Massingill of Fairhope, Dr. Helen Marguerite Kelley of Guin, Jennifer (Ronnie) Kelley Jenkins of Carbon Hill, Roxie Kelley of Birmingham, and Sonja Ozema (Alan) Kelley Ware of Richmond, VA.

Pallbearers will be John T. Hinds, Marcus Kelley, Jr., Matthew LeDuke, James Miles, Dr. Marcus O'Mary Jr., Dell Sims, Ralph Tittle and Alan Ware. Honorary pallbearers will be Hoyt Dodd, Joel Harris and the deacons of Eldridge Baptist Church.

She is also survived by special caregivers Tammy Atkins, Jodie Tidwell, Margaret Smothers, Patsy Tucker and Robbie Edge.

Her extended family includes members of Eldridge Baptist Church, entire community of Eldridge, former students, fellow teachers and countless others.
