Roy E. Guthrie, 65, of Jasper, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at his home. Roy was a retired coal miner from Shoal Creek Mine, member of UMWA Local 1948, charter member of the Townley Volunteer Fire Department. He was an avid Alabama Fan and loved his grandchildren deeply.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold E. Guthrie, father and Ethel Jackson Guthrie. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, R A (Radio) Steadman and mother-in-law, Mary A. Steadman.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. After raising their four children, he supported his wife, Sandra in the pursuit of her nursing career. He was very proud of all four of his children and their accomplishments.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sandra L. Guthrie; sons, SFC Daryl R. Guthrie (Eunice) of Mobile and Phillip G. Guthrie (Elizabeth) of Nauvoo; daughters, Lee Ann Rouse (Ken), Wetumpka and Malana Roberts (Tony), Parrish.

He is also survived by the lights of his life, his grandchildren, Renae Guthrie of Nauvoo, Austen Parker of Wetumpka, Nichole Guthrie of Nauvoo, Weston Roberts, Parrish, Will Rouse of Wetumpka and Braylen Roberts of Parrish. As well as his four legged baby, his beloved pet Tippy III.

He is survived by his brothers, Floyd Guthrie (Fay) and Ronnie Guthrie; sister, Louise Johnson; many nieces and nephews; and many many beloved friends.

Pallbearers will be Tony Roberts, Ken Rouse, Doug Grace, Rodney Corbin, Caleb Wilson and Donnie Madison

Honorary pallbearers will be John H. Boshell, Bill Kilgore, Ronnie Guthrie and Floyd Guthrie and all Members of the UMWA.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012. Funeral services will be at noon on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Haskel Tinker will officiate.
