He was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Clara Milford Crew. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Porterfield Crew; brother, Benjamin Franklin Crew Jr.; and sister, Clara Louise Henry.
Harold graduated from the University of Alabama with a business degree, then Alabama Polytechnical Institute (now Auburn), with a degree in civil engineering. Harold had a successful career completing numerous office buildings, malls and apartment complexes. As an avid golf fan and player he was proud of designing the Oak Mountain State Park Golf Course.
His survivors include a daughter, Allyson Crew; sons, Benjamin Harold Crew (Laura) and Gardner Scott Crew; and grandchildren, Ben, Adam, Blake, Jake, Lindsey and Amanda.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, from 6 until 7:30 p.m. with a small service to follow at Ridout’s Valley Chapel on Oxmoor Road in Homewood. Pastor Paul Lawler will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Homewood Senior Center.
