Lynn girls snap Carbon Hill win streak

Lynn brought an abrupt end to Carbon Hill’s 10-game winning streak, routing the Bulldogs 45-22 in the opening round of the Winfield Christmas Tournament on Thursday.

Lynn won behind its defense. Carbon Hill scored just nine first-half points and made just 9-of-40 shots from the field. The Bulldogs also were 1-for-11 from three-point territory.

Jackee Dodd also did her part for the Bears, outscoring Carbon Hill by herself. She finished with 24 points, nine rebounds and two assists.

The game was close through the first quarter with Lynn (12-1) leading 8-7. The Bears outscored Carbon Hill 12-2 in the second quarter to open up the lead to 20-9 at the half. Lynn led 31-17 after three quarters and held the Bulldogs to just five second-half points.

Lynn faces Danville at 3:20 p.m. today in the second round in a winner’s bracket game.

For the Bears, Brooke Harris added eight points and three steals, Lindsay Tompkin had six points and seven rebounds, Emma Easley had five points and Reagan Tittle had two points.

Carbon Hill (10-4) got 12 points from Caroline Dodd. Lindsay Fluker put in four points while Meagan Bice, Mallorie Buzbee and Maggi Clark had two.

The Bulldogs take on Pinson Valley at 10 a.m. today.

Phil Campbell 60, Lynn 44

Phil Campbell pulled away from Lynn in the second half to earn a 60-44 victory over the Bears on Thursday in the Winfield Christmas Tournament.

Lynn led through the first two quarters. The Bears were up 20-13 after the first and 22-21 at the half.

The Bobcats outscored Lynn (5-6) 39-22 over the final two quarters. Phil Campbell led 43-34 going into the fourth quarter.

For Lynn, Ben Cagle had a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, Jeremy Tittle added 11 points and eight rebounds, Peyton Moore had seven points and three steals, Kyle Medeiros had four points and Clay Porter added two points and seven rebounds.

Phil Campbell hit 11-of-29 3-pointers in the game, including 9-of-19 in the first half.

Lynn takes on Winfield at 11:20 a.m. today in the Bears’ second round robin game.
