SIPSEY — Local volunteer firefighters spent much of the weekend searching the woods near Sipsey for any sign of Larry Foy. Foy is a 38-year old white male who was last seen at his residence on Old Pineywoods Road on Friday afternoon.

Volunteers from Sipsey, Empire, Argo and Pineywoods Fire Departments converged on the area near the home Saturday and Sunday to search the woods on foot and on ATVs. They called the search off Sunday afternoon after finding no sign of the missing man.

Foy and his wife Darlene had just arrived home from the hospital with their daughter, who was born on Wednesday, when he walked outside and never came back.

When he didn’t return immediately on Friday she believed he might have gone to the couple’s other home to care for their animals, but when he still hadn’t returned on Saturday, she called the police. A Walker County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to the scene and took the initial missing person report.

“He was excited about the baby,” a tearful Darlene said Sunday. “When he didn’t call Saturday and hadn’t checked in, I knew something was wrong.”

Larry Foy’s truck is still in the yard and the cell phone company said there has been no activity since Friday on the phone that Larry Foy had with him, leading Darlene Foy to fear that something may have happened to her husband.

She, her infant daughter and the couple’s six-year-old son are surrounded with friends and family as well as the local volunteers who have been searching tirelessly in the frigid weather.

If Foy walked into the woods, concerns for his safety mount with every passing night that temperatures dip below freezing.

“This cold weather is the thing that really concerns me,” Darrell Mote, investigator with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office said. “They didn’t find him last night and it was cold.”

Darrell said the department has received some tips from people who believed they knew something or reported seeing a man that fit Larry Foy’s description, but have not been able to confirm that it was Larry Foy.

“We know he’s missing,” Mote said. “We don’t know if it is voluntary or involuntary at this point, but we’ve been actively looking for him.”

Larry Foy was last seen on Friday night at his residence on Old Pineywoods Road wearing a black Browning hoodie with a camouflage deer on the front and a Browning hat.

Anyone with information about Larry Foy’s whereabouts should contact the Walker County Sheriff’s Office at (205) 302-6464.
