Honorary pallbearers will be members of Mr. Thacker's Sunday School Class at Jasper First Baptist Church.
Mr. Thacker was the son of Titus and James R. (Jim) Thacker, Sr. He was a native of Walker County and spent his younger years in the Corona and Patton Bin areas near Oakman, Alabama. He and the family later moved to Birmingham. Mr. Thacker spent more than 35 years in the accounting department of the Armour Company-during which time he lived in Kansas and Texas.
Following his retirement, he returned to Walker County and built a house in Jasper-to be near his close cousins Dean Thomas Williamson (and her husband Loyd) and Geneva Thomas Kaylor and her husband Roy. Tbe cousins celebrated all holidays with family gatherings.
Shortly after he moved to Jasper, Mr. Thacker joined the Jasper First Baptist Church where he was active in the Adult 9 Men's Sunday School Class and the J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) senior adults organization. He also enjoyed tbe church's musical programs.
Mr. Thacker was a veteran of World War II. He served as a cook in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Thacker was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Warren Thacker, sister-in-law Faye Thacker Woodall, and niece Kelly. His special cousins Dean Thomas Williamson and Geneva Thomas Kaylor and their husbands are also deceased.
He is survived by several first cousins ... once-removed.
