Juanita Lingo Neal Campbell Thompson was born and reared in Arley, Ala. She married her high school sweetheart, W.G. Campbell, when she was 16 years old after she graduated from Meek High School, and attended Florence State Teachers College where she later obtained her B.S. degree at the University of Alabama. She began teaching for the Winston County School System in 1951. In 1954 she gave birth to their only child, William "Billy" George Campbell Jr. Lingo received her Master's Degree from Peabody College and her EDS Degree from the University of Alabama. In the summer of 1964 the Campbell’s moved to Haleyville when Mr. Campbell was appointed Principal of Haleyville Jr. High School and Elementary School. Lingo taught 5th grade at Haleyville Elementary School for many years. She then became the Reading Specialist for the Winston County School System for a short period of time. Following that she was assistant principal for Haleyville Elementary School until her retirement in 1981. After retirement she worked for Northwest Shoals Community College in the Adult Education department. She also worked for the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

Lingo was preceded in death by her parents, Pascal and Irene Neal; her husband, W.G. Campbell; and son, Dr. William G. Campbell Jr. She is survived by her husband, Johnny Thompson of Haleyville; daughter-in-law, Chelly Campbell; and granddaughters, Annaliese Victoria and Karina Isabel Campbell; and her brother, Jimmy Neal of Arley.

Mrs. Thompson was a member of the N.E.A., A.E.A. and W.C.E.A. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for many years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Haleyville for 48 years.

Lingo touched the lives of countless people in Winston County. She was a wonderful teacher, administrator, story teller and friend to all. Haleyville will not be the same without her. Her influence will be felt for years to come in this community .

Visitation will be today, Jan. 5, 2013, from 1 until 3 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Dr. T.B. Stringfellow and Dr. Jim Cooley officiating. Entombment will follow at Winston Memorial Mausoleum.
