CARBON HILL – The Cordova Lady Blue Devils made a big splash to open the first day of the Walker County Basketball Tournament, blowing out the Parrish Tornadoes, 57-17, on Monday at Carbon Hill.

Kelsey Stracner led Cordova with 17 points for the game and sank five baskets from three-point range. Alexis Cooper contributed with 10 points, while Jessica Willingham had 8 points.

“I thought we played a real good game – we wanted to establish defensive pressure early and score some easy transition baskets, which is part of our game plan,” Cordova coach Randy Stracner said. “Once we were able to mount the tempo to our favor, we were able to control the entire game. It was a great effort by our girls.”

The Blue Devils scored 16 unanswered points to begin the game, posting a 16-2 lead at the end of the first period. Cordova continued to perform well on offense and defense in the second period, outscoring Parrish 11-5 to take a 27-7 lead into the half. The Blue Devils continued to roll with a 19-4 third period scoring edge to remain on top, 46-11, en route to the 57-17 final.
