Dodd helped Carbon Hill shake off an early sluggish performance with 21 points to lead the top-seeded Bulldogs to a 50-20 victory over Parrish at the Walker County Tournament at Carbon Hill High School.
Carbon Hill led 21-10 at the half, but used a dominant third-quarter performance to put the game away.
“We were sloppy and didn’t play well,” Carbon Hill coach Wade Tittle said. “We have to get tougher to win championships.”
Next up for Carbon Hill is a matchup with Cordova on Friday at 5:45 p.m.. The Blue Devils are the only Walker County team the Bulldogs haven’t played this season.
“Cordova is going to be ready to play on Friday and we’ve got to do a much better job than we did tonight,” Tittle added.
Carbon Hill (18-5) jumped out to a 9-1 first-quarter lead against Parrish, but the Tornadoes closed the quarter on an 8-2 run to cut the gap to 11-9 after a quarter of play. Carbon Hill outscored Parrish 10-1 in the second quarter, including a Molli Clark basket at the buzzer, for a 21-10 halftime lead.
The Carbon Hill offense got on track in the third period, outscoring Parrish 21-2 for a 42-12 lead en route to the 50-20 victory.
For Carbon Hill, Lindsay Fluker had 13 points, Clark added six and Savanna Lawson put in five.
Parrish takes on Oakman at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the fifth-place game.
Curry 47, Oakman 18
The No. 2 seed Curry Yellow Jackets mounted a 15-5 lead in the first period and never looked back, beating Oakman 47-18 on Tuesday.
Mary Beth Scott paced Curry with 14 points on the night.
Curry held a 25-10 halftime lead and added to its lead in the third period, 13-3, for the 38-13 edge before clinching the 47-18 win.
Curry faces No. 3 seed Dora at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, while Oakman takes on Parrish Tornadoes at 10 a.m. Saturday.
There will be no varsity games held today or Thursday.
On Thursday, a pair of junior varsity boys games start at 4:30 p.m. and the ninth-grade boys championship game between Carbon Hill and Dora starts at 7 p.m.
Varsity games resume on Friday with: Curry girls vs. Dora girls at 3:15 p.m., Parrish boys vs. Oakman boys at 4:30 p.m., Carbon Hill girls vs. Cordova girls at 5:45 p.m. and Carbon Hill boys vs. Dora boys at 7 p.m.
