Jeanette R. Swanson, 74, of Birmingham went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 19, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Jasper, but lived most of her adult life in Birmingham working in commercial real estate.

Mrs. Swanson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Swanson; parents, Bob and Tressie Robinson; and brother, Gerald Robinson.

She is survived by a host of cousins and friends, who are left with wonderful memories of her beautiful smile, her kindness and generosity, her wit and sense of humor, and her positive outlook on life. Jeanette was a lover of the arts and an avid sports fan, especially University of Alabama football and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. She was very interested in her ancestry and proud of her Scottish line as she was a member of Clan Gunn. Jeanette was a founding member of the Alabama Caledonian Society and was a past president. She was the “Queen Mum” of a Scottish society called the Kingdome of Raknar.

A memorial service will be held at Valley Christian Church in Birmingham at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Gary Edge and the Rev. Camden Simon. After the service, a lunch will be provided in the Fellowship Hall at the Church.

Memorials may be made to John Croyle’s Big Oak Ranch in Springville, Ala.
