The Daily Mountain Eagle 2013 Readers’ Choice Awards are revealed in a 42-page special supplement inside today’s newspaper.
“Our readers have answered the call for this special community project,” Publisher Jack McNeely said. “There is no doubt from first glance of the special section that the business community appreciates our readers for their support.”
The Daily Mountain Eagle polled its readers in January, distributing a colorful full-page ballot in five separate editions. The ballot included 113 categories of businesses and professionals for which readers could cast a vote.
“We asked our readers to complete as much of the ballot as possible, and they certainly did,” said McNeely, noting that more than 50,000 individual votes from nearly 1,000 qualified ballots were counted in the inaugural poll. The newspaper accepted only one ballot per adult.
To encourage participation, the newspaper offered a 12-month subscription to a lucky winner of a drawing from ballots that were more than half completed. Frances Stacks of Cordova won the drawing and started receiving her newspaper today.
Meanwhile, an e-book version of today’s special section will be linked to the Daily Mountain Eagle’s online homepage within the next week and remain there through the end of the year.
The newspaper’s website had more than 70,000 unique users, 200,000-plus visits and nearly 1 million page views in January, according to McNeely.
“We want to promote our Readers’ Choice Award winners throughout the year and our website is a perfect vehicle,” he said.
In addition, all first-, second- and third-place finishers in each category will receive a respective 2013 Readers’ Choice Awards certificate. And, all first-place winners that participated in today’s special section with a “Thank You” ad will receive a yard sign recognizing them as the Best of the Best in the inaugural readership survey.
McNeely said certificates and yard signs should be distributed by the end of March.
