A Jasper road, which is seeing much more traffic than in the past, is in need of repairs, and city officials are expecting the contractor of a recent project on that roadway to mend the issues.

Jasper Public Works Director Joe Matthews said a section of Whitehouse Road near the Love’s Truck Stop is having issues with sections of the roadway deteriorating.

“From Industrial Drive to past the Love’s is where the majority of the problems are at — it’s about 1,500 feet,” Matthews said. “It’s basically just falling apart in spots.”

Matthews approached members of the Jasper City Council about the issue at a work session Monday morning. He said there is a one-year warranty on the roadwork, which was designed by DSM Designs and surfaced by Carcel and G Road Construction. The project was paid for by a grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. Matthews said he was looking for direction from the council.

“We will be contacting them to get the problem taken care of,” he said. “I don’t think it will be a big issue for them, because we are still within the warranty period.”
