Calvin was the son of Jesse Thomas Gardner and Minnie Pearlee Davis Gardner. He was the seventh child of ten children having five brothers and four sisters. He attended grammar school in the Jasper school system until grade six. In 1938, the family moved to Hillside, N.J., where he continued school at Hillside Junior High School and completed the ninth grade.
Calvin joined the Marines in 1943 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. After his discharge, he lived in Cranford, N.J., and worked for General Motors in Linden, N.J., until he retired and relocated back to Jasper in the mid 1980s.
He was prceded in death by his wife, Sally Virginia Allison Gardner, who passed away in 2010, his parents and eight siblings.
Surviving him is one sister, Daisy Kate Gardner Jackson from Bedminster, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He will be remembered as a loving, caring person with a great sense of humor, always trying to cheer you up even through his pain and suffering. He loved country and western music and collected many favorite records. He enjoyed taking movies of his family. We will all miss him and never forget his beautiful blue eyes and happy smile.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home from 10 until 11a.m. Funeral Services will be held immediately following the visitation at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Ebrom Cemetery in Double Springs. Don Froelich will be officiating. Kilgore-Green will be directing.
