Participants of Scale Back Alabama have run out of time to shed at least 10 pounds.

Weigh-outs began this week at Walker Baptist Medical Center, the local facilitator for the free 10-week weight loss contest.

Weigh-outs are held at WBMC in the HeartAware Screening room on the ground floor near the main lobby. The remaining times are Wednesday from 7 to 9 a.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Grand prizes will be awarded from a drawing of individuals who participate on a team in which all members lost at least 10 pounds.

The first-place team will win $1,000 per team member; the second-place team will win $500 per team member; and the third-place team members will win $250 per team member.

For individuals who lose at least 10 pounds but were on a team that did not all reach the goal, there is a separate drawing for 50 individual prizes of $100 each.

Scale Back Alabama, now in its seventh year, is a public awareness campaign hosted by Alabama’s hospitals and the Alabama Department of Public Health with support from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.

Last year, Walker County participants lost a combined 880 pounds.
