Walker moved a step closer to a playoff berth on Monday.

The Vikings scored four runs in the first inning and pulled away from Hayden for a 12-2 area road win. Walker is now 3-2 in Class 5A, Area 12 play.

The teams play a double header at Walker’s Valley Park beginning at 4:30 p.m. today.

“That puts us in a good spot,” Walker coach Pat Ware said of the win. “We have to come out and get one out of two (today). If we get one game, that will get us into the playoffs as the area runner up. That was one of our goals going into the year.”

Bailey Tidwell earned the victory on the mound for the Vikings, allowing two runs — one earned — on six hits and two hit batters. He struck out one in six innings.

At the plate, Quinton McCarty was 3 for 4 with two triples, three runs and an RBI, Logan Nix was 2 for 4 with a double, two runs and three RBIs, Tidwell was 2 for 4 with a double, a run and two RBIs, Stone Stephenson was 1 for 2 with two RBIs, John Michael Reed was 1 for 3 with two stolen bases, two runs and an RBI, Nick Hicks was 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI, Saige Harding 1 for 3 with two runs and Brooks Wade was 1 for 3 with a run.

Walker scored four runs in the first inning. Hayden countered with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Vikings padded their lead with one run in both the second and third innings and five in the fifth.

Walker (13-12) will celebrate Senior Night between the first and second games today.

“We started out with only a couple of guys who logged innings last year. We got a lot better as the year went on. Right now we are playing pretty good. We hope to keep on building on it,” Ware said.

Lamar County 11, Oakman 1

Oakman dropped its first area game of the season, falling to the Lamar County Bulldogs 11-1 on the road in their Class 2A, Area 11 matchup on Monday.

The Wildcats (13-9, 4-1) need to beat Lamar County twice at home today to claim the area title. The teams will play today 4:30 p.m.

If Oakman wins the first game, the teams will play a second game, to serve as the tie-breaker. If Lamar County wins the first game, the Bulldogs earn the area title with Oakman finishing as the runner up.

Andrew Welch suffered the loss on Monday. Oakman was held to just two hits in the loss. Reilly Williams and Zac Blanton each had singles.

Parrish splits double header

Parrish split a pair of area games at Brilliant on Monday, losing the opener 3-1 and winning the nightcap 4-3.

In the second game, Parrish’s lone senior, Jordan Madison, hit a game-winning, two-run single to give the Tornadoes the come-from-behind win. Madison also earned the win on the mound, going seven innings.

Spencer Piper doubled in the seventh inning and David Brasher followed with a single before Madison’s game-winning hit.

Tanner Wood pitched the opener for Parrish and took the loss.
