The Vikings won the Class 5A, Section 3 Golf Tournament by five strokes at Silver Lakes Golf Course in Glencoe on Monday. Next up for the Vikings is the Sub-State Tournament set for Monday, May 6 at Terri Pines Country Club in Cullman. The top three teams from the Sub-State Tournament advance to the State Tournament.
On Monday, Walker’s top four players shot in the 70s led by Cade Diehl and Chase Williams. Both golfers finished with one-over par 73s. Matthew Burnett shot a 77 and Jace Kemp shot a 79 for a four-man total of 302. Cole Walker shot an 80 for Walker while Chase Thompson shot a 93 and Travis Hudson shot a 95.
“We played like we are capable of playing,” Walker coach Scotty Ware said.
The top four teams earned a spot at Sub-State. Southside finished second at 307, Cullman shot a 320 and Boaz took fourth at 326.
Curry’s Spencer Fikes advanced to Sub-State as an individual. Fikes shot a 79 and won a playoff to take the final individual spot.
Sanders leads Cordova
Cordova’s heading to the 3A Sub-State Tournament after placing third in the 3A, Section 2 Tournament at Capstone Golf Course in Tuscaloosa.
Dustin Sanders shot a one-over par 72 to finish as the tournament MVP. Sanders finished as low medalist, seven strokes ahead of the second-place finisher.
As a team, Cordova placed third. The top four teams advance to the Sub-State Tournament.
Lauderdale County won the event with a 329 total followed by Hamilton (342), Cordova (345) and Fayette County (346).
Brent Borden finished with an 81 for Cordova. He finished in a three-way tie for fourth place overall. Zach Smith shot a 91 and Justice Evans shot a 100.
Next up for Cordova, which won the Walker County Tournament last week, is the Sub-State Tournament set for Arrowhead Country Club in Montgomery on Tuesday, May 7.
