The fair will run today through Saturday. Gates open at 5 p.m. daily. The old airport property is located on Airport Road in Jasper.
“We’ve always had big crowds in Jasper,” said Tommy Pearson, the fair’s organizer. “The weather should be great this week, and we think that will help us to have some of the biggest crowds we’ve ever had.”
Pearson said there are new midway rides this year, including The Claw and Black Widow. Annual favorites Super Hymalaya, Zero Gravity and the Expo Wheel are back for 2013. There are several other rides, including many kiddie rides as well.
“Our midway is bigger and better,” Pearson said. “This is the most rides we’ve brought, and I think it’s the best group of rides we’ve brought to Walker County.”
There will be several midway games and concession areas. Food being featured include deep-fried Oreos and candy bars, funnel cakes and much more.
The Ultimate Fair will include a petting zoo with more than 40 animals, such as a kangaroo, zebra and llama. Pony rides and a mechanical bull will be available in that area. Pig races will also take place nightly at 7:30 and 9 p.m.
A firework display is scheduled for Friday at 10 p.m.
“I think we’ve added some things that will interest everyone,” Pearson said. “Everybody loves a petting zoo, and this will be the first fireworks show in Jasper in years.”
Parking is free for the fair, but an admission will be charged at the gate. Admission will be $1 Tuesday, $2 Wednesday and Thursday, and $3 Friday and Saturday.
Unlimited ride arm bands will be available or tickets for rides can be purchased separately.
