A Goodsprings man, who fled from local law enforcement Thursday afternoon to allegedly avoid going back to jail, has now received his 15 minutes of fame on Twitter and Facebook after leading authorities on a foot chase through south Walker County.

Members of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office are still searching for 63-year-old Stephen Von “Squeezer” Adkins of Goodsprings, who is wanted by Jasper Police Department on outstanding felony warrants.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office tweeted Adkins’ photo early Thursday morning and a Walker County-related Facebook page has had several postings about the incident.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office reportedly received a tip regarding Adkins’ whereabouts Thursday, but when officials arrived on scene, Adkins fled on foot into the woods and reportedly then swam Wolfe Creek near the Cedar Lake/Pleasantfield community to avoid being apprehended.

Adkins is wanted on charges of resisting arrest, second-degree theft of property and possession of burglary tools in connection with a burglary in April.

He was also reportedly arrested in May 2012 on charges of trafficking meth, manufacturing a controlled substance and chemical endangerment, but was out of jail on bond awaiting trial on those charges at the time of the April incident.

Authorities believe Adkins could still be in the Cedar Lake/Pleasantfield area. He is 5 feet, 11 inches, weighs approximately 140 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information about Adkins’ whereabouts is asked to call the Walker County Sheriff’s Office at 205-302-6464.
