When Harris took the helm of the Tornadoes in 2008, his primary goal was to not only return his team to the state tournament as he had done in his inaugural year, but return home with the championship trophy in hand.
This year the dream came true. Parrish not only accomplished their state title dreams, they did so in dominating fashion — going an impressive 10-1 in the state playoffs and earning area and North Central Region championships in the process.
Harris is the Daily Mountain Eagle Elite Coach of the Year.
The Tornadoes faced a series of tough obstacles during the championship run — from injuries to key players, to a formidable schedule full of quality area and non-area opposition.
Nonetheless, Harris’ Tornadoes met adversity head-on, ending the year with a 40-10 overall record and clinching the school’s first-ever state softball title.
“It’s a credit to the girls I have and the coaches who are with me,” Harris said. “I know the name on it makes it sound singular, but it’s more of a staff and team accomplishment.”
