The store actually opened in early February so managing pharmacist Patrice Nix said it wasn’t a grand opening event, just a chance for community members to come together and get to know each other as well as the store and its employees.
She said the store is trying to live its slogans, “Let Our Family Take Care of Your Family” and “A Pharmacy for the Community.”
The drugstore also announced this week that they will be supplying the first round of school supplies and a backpack to each student in grades kindergarten through eighth grade at both Corner and Bagley Elementary Schools.
Nix said the idea came from store owner Robert Mills, who has done something similar at other stores he owns, such as his store in Pleasant Grove. She said the giveaway will impact approximately 1,400 students, and although she wasn’t sure yet what the cost to the store would be, she said they were glad to help take some of the load off of area parents.
“We want people in the community to know that’s what we’re here for, to help the community in any way we can,” Nix said.
Parents took to the Corner School K-8 Facebook page after the announcement to voice their appreciation for the donation to the schools.
“That’s an awesome way for a local business to support their community. We should definitely return the hospitality,” Kim Overton posted.
Doug and Becca Lott added, “That is great! Small businesses like that are a blessing to our community. Thanks so much!”
Corner Discount Drugs is currently the only pharmacy located in Corner. The pharmacy is located next to Dollar General in the shopping center next to Corner Elementary, behind the old Corner High School building.
Nix said the store is offering a variety of specialty services such as compounding and a limited home delivery service currently, with hopes to expand its offerings as the business grows.
