The search is on for a Cordova man wanted by police on several charges, including robbery, kidnapping and the theft of a pickup truck he took during his crime spree.

Walker County Sheriff’s Investigator Randy Sanford said 44-year-old Dale Davis Jr., of the Cordova/Gorgas area is currently wanted by the sheriff’s office on charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree kidnapping.

More charges are pending against Davis, including those for attempted robbery and unlawful breaking and entering a vehicle, Sanford said.

Sanford said Sunday evening, between 7 and 8 p.m., Davis was seen in the yard at a home on Cordova/Gorgas Road. He allegedly pulled a knife on the homeowner who had walked outside and approached the stranger who was standing near one of the vehicles parked in the driveway.

“During the confrontation, the homeowner’s wife pulled into the drive and the homeowner managed to get away from Davis by telling him he needed to tell his wife what was going on,” Sanford said. “The homeowner jumped into his wife’s car, and they quickly drove away and called 911 on their cell phone.”

Sanford said authorities have reason to believe Davis was attempting to steal a vehicle when the homeowner confronted him.

After the homeowners fled the scene, Davis flagged down a pickup passing by and pulled a knife on the driver of that vehicle, Sanford said.

“He ordered the driver of the pickup to drive him to another house on Cordova/Gorgas Road where Davis then ordered the driver into the back of the truck,” Sanford said.

Sanford said at that point an unknown white female reportedly got into the front of the victim’s truck and Davis drove off with the victim still in the back.

“Davis stopped the truck about a mile or so down the road and let the victim go,” Sanford said.

Davis and the female were last seen in the victim’s truck heading down the Cordova/ Gorgas Road toward I-22.

Authorities believe Davis and the female may still be in the Cordova/Gorgas area; however, the couple does have ties in other states, including Missouri and Georgia.

The victim’s vehicle is a blue 1994 Toyota Tacoma with the license plate 64A89M7. “We have reported it as stolen on the National Crime Information Center database,” Sanford said.

Police don’t have a description of the female. Davis is about 5-foot-8 and weighs approximately 145 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.
