Funeral service for Charles Lamar Bence, 77, of Calera, will be Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 4 p.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home.

Bence passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at his residence. He was born on Feb. 27, 1936, in New Site, Ala., to Albert Mason Bence and Annie Lorene Gooden Bence. He worked as a certified public accountant. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball, reading and tinkering with old cars. He was also an avid golfer and Auburn football fan. Bence loved spending time with his dog, Max, and his family most of all.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Babette Bence of Hoover; sons, Turk Lamar Bence (Jana) of Hoover and Charles Colby Bence (Janelle) of Allen, Texas; grandchildren, Anabeth Milstead, Forrest Milstead and Issac Bence; and sister, Bobbie Hatley.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Sanders Bence; his parents; sisters, Betty Gray and Katherine Reeves; and brothers, Harlan Bence, Auburn Bence and Hoyt Bence.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to the UAB Palliative and Supportive Care, CH19 Suite 219, 1720 2nd Ave. South, Birmingham, AL 35294-2041; the Shelby County Humane Society, 381 McDow Road, Columbiana, AL 35051; or charity of one’s choice.
