Ruth Banks Milstead, 87, of Jasper, formerly of Rock Creek, passed away Monday, July 22, 2013.

Ruth was a faithful wife, loving mother, doting grandmother and great grandmother. She was an active member of Rock Creek Church of God and later Memorial Park Church of God as a Sunday school teacher and member of the choir, along with various other positions she held. Ruth enjoyed embroidery, quilting, and singing. She and her late husband, Junior Milstead, would sing duets together in church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Junior Milstead; and her parents, Willie S. and Minnie Salter Banks.

She is survived by her sons, Wayne Milstead and his wife, Janie, of Hueytown, and John Milstead and his wife, Karen, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; her grandchildren, Wendy M. Kuhnel and her husband, Bruce, of Lynn Haven, Fla., and Eddie H. Milstead of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and her great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Ford and Jesslyn Kuhnel. Ruth is also survived by her sisters, Billie Watkins and her husband, Dan, Gladys Golden and her husband, J.L., and Grace Hyche; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Frank and Kathy Benson, the late Rita East, Comfort Care Healthcare nurse, Marina Dill, and Comfort Care Hospice employees, Sandy Richardson, Heather Hodges, Gail Bice, Scott Peters and Ginny Roberts for the care they provided Ruth, and Venita Jackson for being such a good friend to her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Comfort Care Hospice, 331 19th Street West, Jasper, AL 35501.

Funeral services will be held at Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home Friday, July 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. with burial in Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 25, 2013 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to www.bessemerbrownfh.com.
