George West Cox Jr., 88, of Nauvoo, an ordained minister of the Gospel, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 21, 2013.

Celebration of Life services will be held Sunday, July 28, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Trinity Fellowship Church of God.

West was a dedicated child of God, husband and father. He was married to Violet, the love of his life, for 62 years.

West graduated with an associate’s degree in agriculture, retired after 20 years with General Electric, owned and operated Cox’s Shell Service Station, and was a quality control specialist for Florida Production Engineering. West also founded and pastored Christian Joy Fellowship Church and Academy, and assisted his wife, Violet (owner/operator) in “His Place” Christian book store in Crescent City, Fla.

West was the principal of The Answer Center Christian Academy in Norcross, Ga. He also served as state coordinator for the American Bible Society for both Georgia and Alabama.

West enjoyed singing in the choir, trains and played snare drum for a bag pipe band. Most importantly, West delighted in sharing his savior Jesus Christ with all those around him.

He was preceeded in death by his father, George West Cox Sr.; mother, Mary Carlton Cox; granddaughter Rebecca Ann Clemons; and daughter-in-love, Susan Williams Cox.

He is survived by his wife, Violet May Lewis Cox; children, Mary Perrin (Fred), West Cox (Tina), Jim Cox (Rita) and Carol Harvill (Allen); 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
