A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church on Azalea Road in Mobile with the Rev. Joe Reams officiating. Durham will be laid to rest on Friday, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m. with graveside services at Bryan Cemetery in Dora. There will be no visitation in Mobile or Dora.
Durham loved people and he loved to make people laugh. He was a member of the Cottage Hill Civitan Club of South Alabama. For more than 30 years he was very active in his duties and holding many offices in the organization and helped sell over 45 tons of Civitan Fruitcakes to benefit mentally challenged children. He was a member of St. Mark’s UMC where he received various awards for outreach and evangelism. Preceding him in death was his wife of 40 years, Gail Woods Durham.
Survivors include his children, William E. “Bill” Durham of Monroe, N.C., and Alicia Durham Jones of Jenks, Okla.; grandchildren, Sarah Caroline Jones, Alicia Abigail Jones, Joshua Mathew Jones and Isaac Emory Jones, all of Jenks, Okla.; sister, Frances Wilson of Jasper; and a host of other relatives and friends.
