A single-vehicle accident claimed the life of Carbon Hill native Tammy Martin, 46, Thursday morning.

The accident occurred before 11 a.m. on Prospect Road when the vehicle driven by Martin left the roadway and struck a tree.

Walker County Coroner J.C. Poe said Martin died as a result of the crash and was pronouced dead at the scene.

Martin had been the assistant director/coordinator of the Jasper Senior Center until her retirement last week after being employed by the city of Jasper for more than 20 years.

Many friends and family members took to her Facebook page to express their shock and grief.

Renae Hicks Downey posted on Martin’s Facebook wall, “Thoughts and prayers for your family. The angels don’t know yet what a treasure they gained today! You will be missed.”
