Dr. Erskine S. Murray, 90, a resident of Montgomery, passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, of natural causes. He was born in Walker County to the late Dempsey and Velma Murray.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Alabama Heritage Funeral Home with funeral services following in the chapel. Burial will follow in the Alabama Heritage Cemetery.

Dr. Murray earned a doctorate of education from Auburn University and was the former assistant state superintendent of education for Alabama. He served in WWII in the U.S. Army 23rd HQ Special Troops.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty G. Murray, originally of Bridgeport; a son, Ron (Jan); a daughter, Denise; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; a brother; and a sister.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Dr. Murray’s name to the Stegall Seminary Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 241661, Montgomery, AL 36124.
