There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
Originally from Birmingham, Sartain attended Woodrow Wilson Elementary, Phillips High School and graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in English.
He was drafted out of college and served in the Vietnam War where he was awarded two Bronze Stars for acts of heroism and meritorious service in a combat zone.
Upon returning from the war, Sartain earned a master’s degree in education of the deaf from the University of Alabama. He went on to a 25-year career teaching at the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind. After retirement, Sartain spent three years teaching English at Coosa Valley Academy.
Sartain is survived by his wife, Linda Malone Sartain; his two sons, Michael Malone Sartain of Los Angeles, Calif., his wife, Glenda, and granddaughter, Adaline, and Sean Patrick Sartain, his wife, Christine, and grandchildren, Lake and West; and his sister, Bonnie Sartain Palmer and her husband, Jessie, of Birmingham.
He was a brave, kind, giving person who always thought of others before himself. He will be missed.
