Quena Kay Gurganus Mears, 54, of Pelham, passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013. She was born on Aug. 21, 1958.

The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at 6 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Cordova Church of Christ. She will lie in repose Saturday from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Dovertown Cemetery. Dick Sztanyo, Mel Futrell and Earl Barnett will officiate.

Mears was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Pounds Gurganus; and a host of family.

She is survived by her husband, Sandy Mears of Pelham; father, L.T. Gurganus; nieces, Ashley Gurganus of Las Vegas, N.V., Anna Laura Gurganus of Jasper, and Emily Rodgers Gurganus of Parrish; nephews, Jason Mears of Alabaster, Del Mears of Alabaster, Lee Mears Jr. of West Blockton, John Mears of West Blockton, James Mears of West Blockton and Drew Gurganus of Jasper; brothers, Mike Gurganus (Kate) and Rob Gurganus (Emily); and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and friends, all of whom are very dear.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Indian Creek Youth Camp, 7855 Pleasantfield Road, Parrish, AL 35580.
