The members of the Jasper Fire Department worked for more than 12 hours Friday night and into Saturday morning battling a devastating fire at Jasper’s First Church of the Nazarene. That was following a day that included a horrific traffic accident on U.S. 78 and a separate structure fire on Arkadelphia Road, in addition to the routine daily calls.
The firefighters battled not only the fire but severe thunderstorms in an effort to save one of Jasper’s picturesque churches. Unfortunately, the church was a total loss. But, without the effort of the firefighters, it could have been much worse. And, luckily, there were no injuries reported.
We need to take a minute when we can to thank not only our Jasper firefighters but also the hundreds of volunteer firefighters throughout Walker and Winston counties. Without them putting their lives on the line every time they go to work, our lives would be in far more danger.
