To many, Rhonda was better known as “Nonie.” She loved to fish and could not wait for her Alabama football games this season: she now has made the ultimate touchdown and is forever enjoying the Crimson Flow.
Rhonda had two babies, Rudy and R.J., her dogs, the loves of her life.
Nonie’s faith in God was strong as a High Tower, and her trust never waivered in her Lord.
Rhonda was persistant and for sure of her healing. She received the greatest deliverance on Thursday evening when Jesus called her name and she ran for her healing.
Rhonda was a member of Curry Church of God. Her favorite song and testimony was “Through it all, I’ve learned to trust in Jesus, I’ve learned to trust in God,” and that she did.
Rhonda loved her family and her family loved her. Jr. Cornelius, her husband, never left her side throughout her 25-year battle with MS. Rhonda and Jr. were not only husband and wife but best friends. Jr. said of Rhonda in a soft, tear-filled voice, “She was my rock.” We did not know that Jesus would have our Angel Rhonda’s mansion finished for her today, but He did and she is home.
She is preceded in death by her father, Verlon C. Watkins; grandfather and grandmother, James and Omie Vintson.
She is survived by her husband, J.D. “Jr.” Cornelius; mother, Myra Watkins; sister, Tonja Strickland (Larry); step-sister, Rhonda Pope; niece, Chasitee Dutton (John Ross); nephew, John Gregory Tirey; great-niece and great-nephew, Anna and Davis Dutton.
The family will receive friends today, Aug. 17, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., at Collins-Burke Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Collins-Burke Chapel with burial in Walker Memory Gardens. The Rev. Mike Chandler from Curry Church of God will officiate.
