Berta Meeks Dailey, 80, of Jasper, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Walker Baptist Medical Center.

Visitation was Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in Walker Memory Gardens. Don Graham officiated.

She was a caring, loving and godly wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a true friend. She retired from the Walker County Board of Education working at Farmstead School. She was best known at Farmstead for annual fruit sale, selling concessions and the yearbook sponsor. She served in the PTA at Farmstead School and always had the well-being of not only her own children, but those attending the school. She was an active member of Farmstead Baptist Church serving as a member of the hostess committee and coordinated the kitchen help/meals for Judgment House volunteer cast and crew for more than 14 years. She served for numerous years as a volunteer in the children’s ministry.

She will be dearly missed by the 3-year-old Sunday School class. She would refer to her special friend Billy Doss (Kathy) as the son she never had. One of the favorite quotes given to her by her brother, Wesley Meeks, after their brother Joe’s death was: “When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.” Bertha Meeks Dailey was our treasure.

She was preceded in death by her father, John W. Meeks; mother, Vernada Catherine Jones Meeks; brothers, Wesley W. Meeks and Joe H. Meeks; and son-in-law, Harold Brown Jr.

She is survived by her husband, JC Dailey; daughters, Cindy K. Dailey, Cathy S. Bruce (Doug) and Connie L. Brown; sister, Erlene Meeks Ivey; grandsons, Caden Bruce, Carden Bruce and Connor Brown; and special son, Billy Doss (Kathy).

Pallbearers were Nathan Ivey, Dennis Ivey, Johnny Ivey, Mike Jordan, Billy Doss and Tyler Doss.

Honorary pallbearers were Doug Bruce, Caden Bruce, Connor Brown, Charles W. Ivey, Dalton Doss and Carden Bruce.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Gideons.
