With that in mind, Bevill State Police Chief J.C. Poe decided to sponsor a class for those in law enforcement who need clarification on the new laws.
“There are just so many changes in the gun laws and open-carry laws and there are so many questions,” Poe said. “We found there were lots of officers needing direction on these new laws.”
Speakers for the class will be Walker County District Attorney Bill Adair and a representative from the Alabama Attorney General’s office. They will be explaining the changes in the laws, as well as answering questions about difficult issues with the law, including business owner rights regarding to the new laws.
The class will be held Friday, Sept. 6, at 9 a.m. on Bevill State’s Jasper Campus. The class will be in the Mathews Lecture Hall in the Harold Wade Math and Science Building. The class is open to all law enforcement officers in the area at no cost. Interested officers do not need to register ahead of time.
