CARBON HILL — Carbon Hill opened with an area rout of Corner on Tuesday, but finished with a narrow loss to Cold Springs during a tri-match at Carbon Hill High School.

The Bulldogs (12-7, 2-0) made quick work of Corner, winning 25-12, 25-15, 25-8.

For Carbon Hill, Molli Clark had 11 kills and nine digs, Tessa Ivey added seven kills and five digs, Savanna Lawson had seven kills, four digs and two aces, Abby Tittle had six kills and two digs, Kayla Blankensopp had eight digs and four kills while Jessica Hurst added 23 assists, eight digs and three aces.

Carbon Hill fell in a tight three-set battle with Cold Springs in the nightcap, losing 27-25, 22-25, 15-10. The Bulldogs held a 10-8 lead in the third set only to give up the final seven points to Cold Springs.

For the Bulldogs, Clark had 16 digs and six kills, Ivey added 11 digs and seven kills, Lawson had five kills, Hurst had 18 assists, 12 digs, four aces and two kills, Blankensopp had 15 digs and Lindsey Madison had 10 digs.

Carbon Hill plays a tri-match at Curry on Thursday.

Cordova sweeps Winfield

Cordova improved to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in area play with a straight-set home win over area foe Winfield on Tuesday.

The Blue Devils won the match 25-11, 25-10, 25-17.

Faith Sims had 18 kills, two aces and a block to lead Cordova, Mabry Norris had five kills and an ace, Emily Wilson had 24 assists, six digs and four kills. Kaitlyn Barnes added six aces, three kills and three digs, Randi Capps had two aces, one block and one kill, Emily Colburn had six digs, Maleah Gilmore had five digs and an ace, Kara Hall had four digs and an ace and Allie Bradford had three digs and two aces.

Cordova hosts Dora and Altamont beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Dora routs Oak Grove

Dora notched its 10th win of the season on Tuesday, earning a quick 25-21, 25-13, 25-14 victory over Oak Grove at Dora High School.

Alexia Smith and Larissa Steeley each had eight kills for Dora (10-5, 2-0).  Hannah Wilson added 20 assists, Lydia Sanders had 16 digs, Madisen Bencko had 10 digs and four aces, Alex Smith had three blocks and Jill Thurman added two blocks.

In the JV match, Dora earned a 25-6, 25-8 victory.

For the Bulldogs, Maddi Clayton had four kills and five assists, Bailey Jett had five assists, Brook Abbott had eight digs, Lexi McElroy had 14 aces and Emily Owens added five aces. Dora plays at Cordova on Thursday.
