DOUBLE SPRINGS — The Good Hope Red Raiders marched 65 yards on the games opening drive and never looked back, surviving a 41-27 shootout at Malcolm Blake Stadium with the hometown Yellow Jackets.

Jared McCord got things started early for the Red Raiders, gaining first downs on each of his first two carries. McCord would be the workhorse on this opening drive, carrying the ball on all but two plays. McCord's 5-yard touchdown run gave the Red Raiders a 7-0 lead less than four minutes into the game.

The Yellow Jackets answered, going on a 66-yard drive of their own, highlighted by a quick touchdown pass from Seth Blanton to Cole Hagood to tie the game at 7-7.

Good Hope answered as it seemed the only thing that was able to slow either offense down on Friday night were the official timeouts for heat. The Raiders got an 18-yard screen pass ran in for a touchdown by McCord for a 14-7 lead with nearly two minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Winston County struck back. On the first play of the drive Seth Blanton hit Cody Henderson on a perfectly ran post route, beating man to man coverage for a 60-yard touchdown pass to notch the score at 14-14.

On the ensuing drive, Good Hope took the ball 75 yards behind 6 carries and a touchdown from their stud back McCord for a 21-14 lead.

Again Winston County would answer with their passing attack, taking the ball on a 60 yard drive that was capped by another pass from Blanton to Henderson for a 13-yard touchdown. The extra point tied the game at 21.

Dylan Earnest intercept a pass by Good Hope's Riley Eisner at the Yellow Jackets own 9 yard line, to end what looked to be another scoring drive by the Red Raiders. Earnest also had two pass break ups.

Good Hope closed an 80-yard scoring drive with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Eisner, who found a receiver drifting across the back of the end zone.

Good Hope added to its lead from there with Eisner hitting Austin Hundley with a 9-yard touchdown to make the score 34-21.

The game was sealed on the following drive as Good Hope picked off an errant Seth Blanton pass and returned it over 60 yards for a touchdown to take a 41-21 lead.

The Yellow Jackets got their last touchdown on a pass from Blanton to Earnest with over seven minutes left in the game.

Blanton led the Yellow Jackets with 4 touchdowns and 209 yards passing on 10 of 20 passing attempts while Cody Henderson had 12 tackles to lead the defense.

Jared McCord rushed the ball 26 times for 105 yards and two touchdowns. He also added a receiving touchdown. Riley Eisner was 17 of 27 for 200 yards and three scores.
