In a phone interview with the Daily Mountain Eagle, Wright’s daughter, Erin Hufstedler, confirmed that the Bulldog coach had between five to six bypasses in order to correct the problem and could be away from his program for an indeterminate amount of time.
Wright directed last week’s 21-11 victory over the Corner Yellow Jackets at from the press box at Horace Roberts Field, relaying instructions via headset to assistant coach George Banks.
Banks is expected to assume head coaching duties during Wright’s absence, including this week’s region matchup at West Blocton.
Wright, who also serves as Dora’s athletic director, is in his second stint with the program — returning last year after previously serving as head coach from 2001-06.
He guided the Bulldogs to the fourth round of the playoffs last season as well as capturing the team’s first region championship since 2004, finishing with a 12-2 record.
The Eagle will make updates available when more information on Wright’s condition is ascertained.
