No. 1 Calera blanks Corner 37-0

CALERA — Calera shook off a slow start and cruised to a 37-0 region victory over Corner on Friday night.

The Eagles lost two fumbles and punted on there first three drives of the game and the game was scoreless after one quarter of play.

Calera (4-0, 3-0) got into the end zone in the second quarter when Stephen Ellison kicked a 38-yard field goal.

Calera then scored three touchdowns — on Brian Stone's 3-yard run, Ronnie Clark's 8-yard run and Clark's 17-yard pass to Jordan Bishop, giving the Eagles a 23-0 halftime lead.

The Eagles came out for the second half minus star quarterback Clark, who had to leave the game. Clark finished with 112 yards rushing and a touchdown and 91 yards passing and a touchdown.

Calera's defense recorded its third shutout of the season while holding Corner to just 184 total yards. Stone led the effort with seven tackles and two sacks.

Hunter Doppler had 16 tackles for Corner (1-3, 1-2).

The Yellow Jackets travel to Hayden for a non-region game next week.
