Alumni of Walker Junior College — now known as Bevill State Community College — are invited to a special reunion planned for Saturday at Blackwater Park located just off Alabama Highway 257 between Jasper and Curry.

The reunion, which begins at 10 a.m. and will go on most of the day, is being held in honor of the faculty, staff and students who attended the college between 1956 and 1966.

“We would certainly be excited to share our memories with any others who were honored to attend Walker Junior College,” said Judy Clark Frazier, one of the event’s organizers. “Walker College’s beauty was not only external, but was shown within the hearts of each student, faculty and staff member who was privileged to walk through her doors.”

Frazier said former Walker College presidents David Rowland and Jack Mott, as well as Dean Hosea B. Thorne Jr. and Sara Best Clem, widow of longtime Walker College basketball coach Glen Clem, are expected to attend Saturday’s reunion.

Those attending are encouraged to bring their own folding chairs, as well as food and drinks. There’s no charge to attend.

To get to Blackwater Park, just go to the intersection of Airport Road and Alabama 257 and follow the signs.

“We hope this has a good turnout, and we plan to make this an annual event,” Frazier said.
