No. 7 Oakman blanks Hale County

MOUNDVILLE — Oakman got a balanced offensive attack and a dominant defensive effort as the seventh-ranked Wildcats kept pace with the region leaders on Friday, posting a 28-0 victory at Hale County High School.

Oakman (6-1, 4-1) scored in every quarter with four different players going into the end zone.

Senior quarterback Jase Trotter led the team offensively, completing 7-of-13 passes for 175 yards and rushing for another 60 yards and a touchdown. Deontre Muse hauled in five passes for 134 yards while Chris Austin rushed 15 times for 54 yards and a score.

Austin opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run. Muse added a short touchdown run of his own in the second quarter as Oakman took a 14-0 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Trotter scored on a six-yard run. Quinton Harris added the last score, returning a punt 48 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Defensively, Quinton Harris had 10 tackles and a broke up a pass, Austin Billings had six tackles, a sack and broke up a pass, Jody Green had six tackles and a pass break up, Caleb Woods had six tackles, Jake Jones had four tackles and both TJ Traywick and Hunter Williams had three tackles.

The game was Oakman’s first shutout since blanking Cold Springs 28-0 last season.

Oakman hosts Aliceville in a key Class 2A, Region 4.

Aliceville improved to 5-0 in region play with a 61-6 win over R.C. Hatch.
