Addison locked up a spot in the de facto Class 1A, Region 7 championship game with a dominating 56-12 victory over the Sumiton Christian Eagles on Friday.
The Bulldogs rolled up nearly 500 yards on offense, while the defense held the Eagles to 224 yards, recorded eight quarterback sacks and 18 tackles for a loss. The Bulldogs will play No. 6 Falkville Friday night in a battle of high-powered offenses.
Oakman posted a 28-0 shutout win over Hale County Friday night, with great production offensively and defensively. Senior quarterback Jase Trotter led the team offensively, completing 7-of-13 passes for 175 yards and rushing for another 60 yards and a touchdown, while Quinton Harris led the defense with 10 tackles. The Wildcats battle Aliceville, Class 2A, Region 4’s only undefeated team, on Friday night.
Oakman and Lamar County – who Aliceville holds a victory over – are tied for second place in the region at 4-1. In other headlines from the weekend:
DORA AND WINSTON COUNTY STILL IN THE HUNT: Postseason magic is still not out of the grasp of the Dora Bulldogs and the Winston County Yellow Jackets. Dora stayed in the playoff mix with a thrilling 45-42 win over Oak Grove Friday night and could lock up Class 4A, Region 4’s fourth-place spot with a win over Jemison on Friday. Jemison defeated the Corner Yellow Jackets Friday night, 54-27. Winston County, who suffered a heartbreaking 41-35 loss to Hanceville on Friday, will need back-to-back wins over Hamilton and Vinemont to remain in playoff contention.
WALKER INCHES CLOSER TO REGION TITLE: The Walker Vikings took an additional step to capturing their second consecutive Class 5A, Region 6 championship by knocking off previously unbeaten and fifth-ranked Center Point, 28-8, in a rousing homecoming victory. Walker’s road to the title consists of two region clashes — with Mortimer Jordan (4-3, 3-2) and Springville (3-4, 2-3).
LOOKING FOR SECOND WIN: Four one-win teams in the Daily Mountain Eagle coverage area will look for their second victory of the season on Friday night in region clashes. Curry (1-6) hosts Moody, Meek (1-6) hosts Southeastern (1-6) while Lynn (1-6) and Parrish (1-6) will battle at Parrish’s Harland-Nelson Stadium.
