Carbon Hill claims 2nd straight area title

CARBON HILL —  Carbon Hill made quick work of both Oak Grove and Dora, earning a pair of sweeps en route to its second straight 4A, Area 8 Tournament title.

Next up for Carbon Hill is a match vs. Ashford, the Area 3 runner up, at 4:15 p.m. Friday at the South Super-Regional Tournament at the Cramton Bowl Multi-plex in Montgomery.

For Carbon Hill, Molli Clark, Jessica Hurst, Tessa Ivey and Savanna Lawson made the All-Area team.

The home-standing Bulldogs opened the day with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-10 victory over Oak Grove.

In the match, Hurst had 30 assists and two aces, Ivey had 11 kills and five digs, Abby Tittle had 10 kills, Clark had seven digs and six kills, Lawson had six kills and Hannah Moon had five digs, four kills and two aces.

Carbon Hill won the championship match over Dora 25-23, 25-17, 25-20.

Ivey led the Bulldogs with 12 kills and six digs, Clark had eight kills and four digs, Lawson had seven kills, Tittle added four kills and two aces while Hurst had 27 assists, six digs and two aces and Kenna Alexander had six digs and four aces.

For Dora, Hanna Wilson had 14 assists and 10 digs, Smith had eight kills, Lydia Sanders had 25 digs, Madisen Bencko had 17 kills and Shelby Watkins had 11 digs.

Dora opened Tuesday’s tournament with a 25-13, 25-13, 25-19 win over Corner.

For the Bulldogs, Wilson had 18 assists, three aces, three digs and three kills, Smith had eight kills, Sanders had 19 digs while Bencko had eight kills and 10 digs. Watkins added nine kills.

Wilson, Sanders, Smith and Lindsey Johnson made the All-Area team for Dora.

Dora (21-20) will join Carbon Hill at the South Super-Regional Tournament on Friday. Dora takes on Headland at 6:45 p.m. in Montgomery.
