CORDOVA — The Cordova Blue Devils dropped their second straight game on Friday night, losing at home to the Hanceville Bulldogs 54-13.

Despite gaining 227 yards on the ground, Cordova never found its rhythm on offense. Hanceville rushed for 364 yards and four touchdowns with an additional 66 yards and one score through the air.

After going three-and-out, the Devils punt was blocked and recovered by Kolby Smith on the 27-yard line.

One play later, Brontae Harris ran in his first score of the night, making the score 6-0.

After trading possessions, Cordova started in Bulldog territory and quickly scored on a 13-yard run by Charles Woods to notch the game at 6-6.

Harris made his only mistake of the night, fumbling the pitch, which was covered by Cordova’s Taylor Trotter.

However, the Devils were unable to turn the turnover into points.

Hanceville (8-1, 6-1) had the ball to start the second quarter, and Jeremy Hurst hit Dant’e Reese for a 31-yard touchdown pass to make it 12-6.

The Bulldogs would get on the board once more in the first half, this time a 10-yard run by Harris. Torrey Green ran in the 2-point conversion to make it 20-6.

Both teams went three-and-out to start the second half, but Green broke through for a long 43-yard touchdown run. The PAT was no good.

The Devils’ next drive didn’t last long as  Jonathan Shumate was picked off by Harris who ran it back 53 yards for the pick 6 to make it 33-6.

Harris would score again on Hanceville’s next possession, this time a 52-yard run. The PAT was blocked.

The Blue Devils (2-7, 1-6) marched down the field on their next drive, resulting in Cade Adkins powering his way through the defense for a 7-yard touchdown run to make it 39-13.

The Bulldogs answered however, as John Smalls scored from 7-yards out.

With 3:09 left in the game, Hanceville scored on another pick 6, this time with Reese returning the interception  54 yards to make the final score 54-13.

Cordova’s Charles Woods ran for 149 yards and a score. For the Bulldogs, Brontae Harris ran for 219 yards, three touchdowns, and a pick 6.

The Blue Devils wrap up their season next week as they travel to Curry.
