Kathleen Freeman Parker was born Oct. 31, 1923, to Al and Lou Freeman. She was one of 14 children. She was known to most as Kat and to her three grandchildren, she was lovingly referred to as Nanny. Being one of 14 children, she grew up to value hard work and dedication. Kathleen became a widow at age 36 and a single parent to daughter Tanya. Kathleen then went on to pursue a nursing degree and was a nurse for 40 plus years. Her family and friends could always depend on Kathleen’s kind and generous nature. She had a big heart for others and always helped anyone in need. Kathleen’s family meant the world to her. She cherished her grandchildren and tried to instill in them the values she held dear of helping those in need, hard work, taking pride in themselves and getting an education. Kathleen took much pride in her home and cooking. Holidays were very important to her. She loved cooking big meals for her family to share. Those who knew Kathleen knew her to be a very feisty, high spirited and independent woman. Kathleen fought hard all her life and overcame many obstacles. She fought the last few years against Alzheimers and dementia and just celebrated her 90th birthday. Kathleen was surrounded by her daughter and grandchildren as she passed away. Kathleen was very much loved for her strength and strong will and determination. Her family was made stronger by her example. She will be greatly missed.
