This week’s holiday is a time to be thankful for all the blessings bestowed on us, to spend time with our friends and family and to enjoy food and fellowship.

This year, after the Thanksgiving festivities, we encourage readers to keep that spirit going into Black Friday and the weekend that follows.

Remember the meaning of the season and remain courteous and Christ-like while interacting with others as the official Christmas shopping season begins. No material thing is worth as much as a person, and no football game is as important as showing respect for your fellow man.

As one part of this community- and family-focused holiday season, we ask that you consider locally-owned businesses for your Christmas shopping. These businesses offer unique, thoughtful gifts and their purchase helps other local families have a better holiday season. Focusing on the community and local families by shopping locally means those businesses have more resources to care for themselves, pay forward the good will by spending more in the community as well and give back through school fundraisers and charities. Shop local and the money stays local to reinvigorate the economy in Walker County.
