Officials don’t suspect foul play in the death of a Jasper woman found lying in the front yard of her home on Old Birminham Highway early Tuesday morning.

Walker County Coroner J.C. Poe said officials believe 59-year-old Jackie Chappell may have had a medical emergency. Her body was found around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday after someone called 911 to report Chappell lying outside.

“There were no signs of foul play,” Poe said.

Poe said it appears Chappell may have been outside since before midnight. Temperatures dipped into the lower 30s Monday night and may have contributed to Chappell’s death.

“That’s a possibility,” Poe said, “because she had been outisde for several hours.”

Jasper firefighters, Jasper police and Regional Paramedical Services responded to the scene after the 911 call.

No autopsy is planned, Poe said.
