Local residents are getting a second chance to show off their photography skills by documenting a day in their life.

Officials with the Walker Area Community Foundation recently announced that Walker 24/7 Photography Contest will return on Jan. 1.

All age groups are eligible to compete for a grand prize of $500.

Ron Richardson took home last year’s grand prize for his photograph of a Celebration Service at First United Methodist Church.

The new crop of winning photos will be displayed at the Bankhead House and Heritage Center from May 6 through July 25.

Local attorney Pat Nelson, an award-winning photographer and chairman of the contest, will be leading a photography workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Bankhead House.

The basic skills of digital photography and camera buying tips are among the topics that will be covered.

No prior knowledge or equipment is required.

The contest includes a category for cell phone submissions as well as traditional photographs.

The contest rules require that the pictures be taken between Jan. 1 and Jan. 31. All submissions must be mailed or delivered to the WACF office by Friday, Feb. 14.
