The Daily Mountain Eagle will poll its readers this month on the area’s best businesses and professionals in the second annual Readers’ Choice Awards Contest.

“Last year’s inaugural readers’ poll was a huge success. We had well over 50,000 individual votes for more than 100 categories,” said Publisher Jack McNeely. “I expect those numbers to increase this year.”

The Eagle will circulate its 2014 Readers’ Choice Awards Ballot in five separate issues of the Daily Mountain Eagle in January. The ballots will be published Thursday, Jan. 2, Tuesday, Jan. 7, Thursday, Jan. 9, Tuesday, Jan. 14, and Thursday, Jan. 16. In all, more than 40,000 ballots will be distributed.

“I also encourage businesses to be proactive when it comes to promoting our Readers’ Choice Awards to their customers via electronic media such as emails, texts and social networking,” McNeely said.

Additional ballots will also be available for purchase at 50 cents apiece at the Daily Mountain Eagle office located at 1301 East Viking Dr. in Jasper. These bulk sales will be limited to 50 ballots.

“While I encourage businesses to purchase additional ballots to give to their customers, we will not accept bulk submissions. In other words, a business cannot stuff the ballot boxes, so to speak, by buying 50 ballots, voting for themselves and then submitting a box of ballots,” McNeely explained.

The deadline for submitting ballots is 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24.

We will accept one entry per adult or up to two entries per household.

Ballots that are at least 50 percent complete will be included in a drawing for a 12-month subscription to the Daily Mountain Eagle; drawing to be held in February.

All businesses and professionals finishing in first, second and third place in each of the respective 100-plus categories will be announced in a special keepsake 2014 Readers’ Choice Awards section to be published Thursday, Feb. 27.

The special section will also be uploaded to the Eagle website at www.mountaineagle. com and remain there through the end of the year.
