Brandon Stuart Key, 26, of Jasper, and Amber Dawn Abel, 36, of Nauvoo, were in custody after members of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office pursued the pair from Manchester to Nauvoo. They were reportedly spotted driving a stolen vehicle.
“We have been looking for these two individuals for several days in connection with multiple stolen vehicles,” said Sgt. Ralph Williams, an investigator with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office. “We had information that Mr. Key was driving one of the stolen vehicles, a red GMC truck with a stolen tag from a church van displayed on the rear.”
Williams said a sheriff’s deputy spotted the truck on Country Club Road near Manchester but lost the vehicle when it turned onto Birdfarm Road between Manchester and Curry.
“We spread out at that point to try and intercept the stolen vehicle and found it traveling on Fall City Road,” Williams said. “Mr. Key and his accomplice fled in the vehicle after we attempted to stop them.”
Williams said, at some point, the pair reportedly abandoned the stolen truck in the woods behind a house on Carbon Hill-Nauvoo Road.
“We contacted the Alabama Department of Corrections Tracking Dog Team and with their help, we were able to take both subjects into custody,” Williams said.
“They have both been charged with first-degree felony theft of property, along with several other charges related to the pursuit, and the Jasper Police Department is obtaining felony warrants against the pair as well for vehicles taken in their jurisdiction.”
The Jasper Police Department, Alabama State Troopers, Carbon Hill Police Department and Cordova Police Department assisted the Sheriff’s Office in capturing these two individuals.
“Mr. Key is also a registered sex offender in the state of Alabama,” Williams said.
Key and Abel are both currently being held in the Walker County Jail on bond.
