Walker piled up points for the second straight game and locked up the Class 5A, Area 14 regular season title in the process, routing Hayden 88-44 at Songer Gym on Tuesday night.

The Vikings forced 24 turnovers and knocked down 11 3-pointers en route to a second-straight area blowout. Walker defeated Curry 102-18 on Friday.

Walker has scored 190 points and made 27 3-pointers in the last two games.

“We’ve started to defend better the last two games,” Walker coach Rufus McDuffie said. “It’s helped that we’ve also shot better in those games. We are in the second half of the season. The kids know what to do, they just have to execute.”

Walker executed perfectly on both sides of the ball against an overmatched Hayden team.

Walker jumped out to a 19-5 lead after the first quarter. Six different players scored points in the opening quarter led by Aaron Morris, who knocked down a 3-pointer and a layup.

Dawson Salors connected on a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter. Both Morris and Brandon Thursby made long-range shots as well to help Walker build a 42-19 halftime lead.

The Vikings (12-7 overall, 5-0 in area play) got four more 3-pointers in the third quarter and took a 74-35 lead into the fourth quarter.

Ten Walker players scored on the night led by Salors, who had three 3-pointers and finished with 19 points, Morris connected on three 3-pointers and had 18 points, Michael Bridges added 12 points, Thursby hit three 3-pointers and had 11 points while Matt McKay had eight and Johnathan McCants added seven.

Walker locked up the area title before Thursday’s area finale at Mortimer Jordan. The Blue Devils fell to Hayden 65-55 on Friday, giving Mortimer Jordan its second area loss.

The Wildcats (6-10, 3-3) were led by Parker Duncan with 14 points.
